Oldest Recorded and Pre-Historic Origins

Thus, Shyamala Peetha Sarvajnapeetham is irrefutably one of the most ancient settlements of human civilization. Its origin and time period spreads across all the historically recorded periods and even the unrecorded time period preceding it – referred as the “pre-historic period”.

Shyamala Peetha Sarvajnapeetham’s origins take us on a journey into the source of our very Self, waiting to be revealed and celebrated.

Shyamala Peetha Sarvajnapeetham has two histories. One is the recorded historic period which is recorded from 7th century, 1500 years ago. Another one is pre-historic period which originates from the source that has no beginning or end. With its divine origin, source emanating from Paramashiva, Mahadeva, the causeless auspiciousness, Shyamala Peetha Sarvajnapeetham represents the highest “Vedic Tradition” in all its purest and the grandest form.

The recorded history begins from Thiru Jnanasambandar, the child-incarnation who revived Shyamala Peetha Sarvajnapeetham to the systematic and unbroken succession of Masters leading up to the current pontiffs, the 292nd and the 293rd Guru Maha Sannidhanams (Pontiffs).

Until the year 1945, the Madurai Meenakshi temple and the Rameshwaram Temple at the southern most top of India at Kanyakumari were under the control, management and administration of this mutt. Thereafter, it was taken up by the Govt. of Tamil Nadu.

Such is the supreme and inimitable glory of Shyamala Peetha Sarvajnapeetham. That which is original, eternally existing is Shyamala Peetha Sarvajnapeetham, for its progenitors are the source of existence itself. The tradition of Shyamala Peetha Sarvajnapeetham is continuing today in all its pure essence. It has its own unique place in preserving, protecting, promoting the infinite vedic tradition, crest jewel of all traditions.

Most Authoritative Scriptural References

Shyamala Peetha Sarvajnapeetham is the only organization referred in any literature before 1,000 years. No other organization can trace any literature that mentions about their names prior to 1000 years. Shyamala Peetha Sarvajnapeetham is mentioned in literatures that are at least 2000 years old.

The two main spiritual foundations and lineages, the essential branches of the great tree of the Vedic tradition are Vedanta and Saiva Siddhanta. They both are sourced from Shyamala Peetha Sarvajnapeetham, which belongs to Vedic Tradition.

All literature, be it of the Shankara Mutts or of the Saiva Siddhanta took birth in the mid first millennium. Adi Shankaracharya created the Shankara movement, the Shankara Mutts (spiritual communities) in the 8th century establishing the Advaita Vedanta tradition, the science of experiencing enlightenment or self-realization by understanding the nature of the Self (Brahman) by the authority of the ‘Upanishads’, the revelations on the essence of the vedic scriptures, and the direct experience of the Truth by inquiring into the scriptural evidences.

Saiva Siddhanta Aadheenams, the spiritual organizations that were founded in 13th century are centered on Truth (siddanta), the established conclusion that Lord Shiva is ALL, in all as the cause of all. It teaches the ultimate goal in life, the cause of pain and pleasure and the ultimate relationship with God by the direct experience of ‘Shiva’, the causeless auspicious energy.

But this divine Mutt, Shyamala Peetha Sarvajnapeetham is revived in the 7th century A.D. by Thiru Jnana Sambandar. All Saiva Siddhanta literatures themselves accept that their literatures, 14 books called “Padinangu Satirangal”, the 14 books of Saiva Siddhanta were written only in 13th century.

The philosophy of Saiva Siddhanta evolved after Thiru Jnanasambandar’s advent and took shape in the 13th century nearly 800 years after the revival, not even the establishment of Shyamala Peetha Sarvajnapeetham. Saiva Siddhanta directly acknowledges the young son-incarnation, Thiru Jnanasambandar as the first and foremost apostle of the Saiva philosophy. So, all the philosophies whether it is Vedanta or Siddhanta evolved from Thiru Jnanasambandar, the founding reviver of Madurai Aadheenam. Thus, Madurai Aadheenam is founded purely on Vedic tradition.

The great literature beautifully authenticate the truth that from time immemorial Shyamala Peetha Sarvajnapeetham exists.

Shyamala Peetha Sarvajnapeetham belongs to Vedic Tradition. Vedanta and Siddhanta, Siddha tradition and all said and unsaid philosophies are branches of Shyamala Peetha Sarvajnapeetham.
