291 Maha Sannidhanam Srila Sri Somasundra Jnanasambanda Desika Paramacharya

291st Guru Maha Sannidhanam – Srila Sri Somasundra Sri Jnanasambanda Desika Paramacharya Swamigal

He was born in Kulasekaran Pattinam, Thirunelveli district. His father was Vairanathapillai and he had five family members including him. K.V. Sundaram was running Sundaram Ltd. textile company in Sri Lanka. He knew Tamil, English and Singalam. He was the administrative officer of Sivasubramanya Swami temple in Sri Lanka for a long period. He also was the founder of Thiruvarul Sabha, Thiruvarul High school at Kulasekaran Pattinum.

Kirubananadavariyar and Nagerkoil Arumuganavalar who went to Sri Lanka often were friends of the 291st Sannidhanam. Being born in a traditional and highly spiritual family life, deeply connected to temples and devoted to Lord Shiva’s puja for 28 years, he was naturally inclined to spiritual life from a young age. After the death of his wife he become completely detached from family life and turned to the depths of spirituality.

He expressed his wish to Kirubananadavariyar and Nagerkoil Arumuganavalar to do spiritual seva in Tamil Nadu. Subbiah Ooduvar from Aadheenam asked him to come to Madurai Aadheenam and be a prince so that he can offer his services to the Lord. He was then introduced to Madurai Aadheenam, and was named and honored as “Somasundra Desikar” and declared as the prince, and administration in charge was given to him fully.

Before accepting the honor of being the Prince of Madurai Aadheenam, he had contacted the Sannidhanam and having him as the leader founded the ‘Olinerimandram’ Sabha on 30-05-1951, which on 30-03-1953 was given the new name “Thiruvarul Thanvaneri Mandram”.

He gave Rs. 50,000 as donation to successfully run the Mandram. His Highness Swamigal was the permanent head of the mandram. Kirubananadavariyar and Nagerkoil Arumuganavalar were the permanent ministers.

After being declared as the prince in 1955, the 291st Guru Maha Sannidhanam constructed Hindu Dharma Prachara Sangam in Chennai. Big tasks were carried out by this sanga for the welfare of the people. In August 1960, Siddhantam magazine published an article about this sanga.
